September 15th 2021 – Heather rescue September 15th 2021 – Heather rescue Today’s mission – clear fern and birch saplings invading a small patch of heather in the wood thereby giving it a better chance of survival and increasing the wood’s biodiversity range. Dave dishes out the “weapons” and issues orders Pete gets stuck in with the root puller. Gerry keeps watch for unexpected dangers. Ayyy, whats this then hiding under the ferns, our app says Ochre brittlegill – but is it? Sorry to disturb you Mr Toad. My guess is this could be a buff tip caterpillar?? Nothing like seeing a good pile of rubbish at the end of a task. The heather can consider itself rescued! The rest of the group join us, Paulina and new volunteers Sharon & Mario have been path clearing near Waterton’s hide. Sharon & Mario, great to have you with us guys – hope you can come again.
