Wednesday January 17th ACTIVITY DAY
Our monthly activity day helping the Rangers with essential work, for 2-3 hours. This will be a regular monthly feature on the 3rd Wednesday from March throughout the summer. Meet at the Countryside Centre 10.00am
Sunday January 28th DUCK WALK
A guide walk around the lake led by our resident expert Pete Smith to observe the waterfowl and other species present at this time of year. In 2017 we saw or heard over 50 different birds in a couple of hours. Beginners welcome. Meet at the Countryside Centre 10.00am
Tuesday March 6th BRITISH WOODLAND HISTORY
Talk by Mel Jones. Mel writes regularly in the local monthly magazine, ‘tito’. Make sense of all those humps and bumps in the woods which may be charcoal hearths, sawpits or compartment boundaries. Find out what a black bark and a lording were, and what woodland terms like gapping, raddling and snagging mean. Meet in the Countryside Centre 7.00pm

Tuesday April 24th THE DEER OF THE UK
An illustrated talk by Dr Morris Charlton, chairman of the Yorkshire branch of the Deer Society on identification, habitat and 21st century issues. Meet in the Countryside Centre 7.00pm
Sunday May 6th SPRING CHORUS WALK
Our ever popular walk to see and hear the bird life at the most active time of the year, again led by Pete Smith. In 2017 we saw or heard a record 68 different species in a couple of hours. Beginners welcome. Meet at the Countryside Centre 8.00am

We usually hold a fun quiz with prizes and incorporate a brief AGM. For the past couple of years this has been an enjoyable and well attended event. Meet in the Countryside Centre 7.00pm NB NEW DATE
Tuesday July 17th ‘MERRY CITY’
Kevin Trickett, President of Wakefield Civic Society looks at the history of Wakefield from an architectural perspective – with lots of illustrations. Meet in the Countryside Centre 7.00pm
We are very keen to expand our membership, and our meetings are open to all. However there are costs involved in presenting this programme of events, so there is a small attendance charge at each meeting of £2 to non members and a 50p charge to all partaking in light refreshments at indoor meetings.
Children are free but must be accompanied.
There is no charge on Activity Days.
Annual membership is only £7 and application forms are available in the Discovery Centre.
