Parking
We have been disappointed to learn that the council is starting consultation for car parking fees at Anglers (and changes to parking elsewhere) . The content of the council’s e-mail is shown below, with a link which gives more details. There is an opportunity to comment by 7 November to the council on the proposal. If this change comes about we fear that it will reduce the number of visitors to the site (and significantly affect contributions in the new donations box). So please make your views known to the council regarding the proposals shown below.
Parking Consultation:
Wakefield Council is proposing to introduce charging for overnight, Sunday and Bank Holidays at the Council’s current pay-and-display car parks and on-street parking bays.
At the same time, the Council are also proposing to introduce three-hour maximum stay parking at Holmfield Park, Stork Lodge and Thornes Park Stadium (all within Thornes Park), Minsthorpe Leisure Centre, Normanton, Leisure Centre and Library, and Pontefract Pool.
The Council believe that the proposals will free up more parking spaces for genuine site users and help us take enforcement action to tackle any issues.
At Anglers new parking charges would also be introduced and these would be in line with Pugneys Country Park:
Up to 1 hour – £1, up to 4 hours – £2.50, over 4 hours – £4, maximum stay: 10 hours. The Council have set up a website based survey. We will be placing posters up in the areas affected so the wider public can have their say.
To find out more and have your say on our proposals visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/parkingconsultations by 7 November 2017.

If you have been to Anglers Country Park recently you will probably have seen the new donation box near the entrance gates. The box, which the council has paid for, is the result of a suggestion from the council for visitors to make donations to our Friends group. The money will be used for projects, agreed with Centre staff, for the park and woodland. We have indicated on our notice board that the first project would be to provide a defibrillator box to be positioned on the outside of the Discovery Centre. There are suggestions for more ambitious projects if the resulting donations are sufficiently significant. Donations would be threatened by the indroduction of parking charges.
